How are carbon ribbons classified?

    Ribbons are divided into wax ribbon, resin ribbon and wax/resin ribbon.

    Wax ribbon

    Wax ribbon usually contain a high percentage of wax-based raw materials. These raw materials determine the melting point of the ribbon. The melting point affects the energy level required for printing. Generally speaking, wax is used because its melting point is much lower than that of resin. The energy required for printing with base ribbon is much less than that required for printing with a mixed base and resin base. The durability of wax ribbons for printing graphics is not as good as mixed and resin ribbons due to their softer nature. Most wax ribbons only have one layer of coating.

    That is, products with wax and carbon black (assumed to be black carbon ribbon) as the main materials as coating materials. Wax ribbon is the most economical and cheapest ribbon. It is mainly used for printing on general paper. When using wax ribbon, you must pay attention to the cooperation with paper. Wax ribbon is used for materials with slightly uneven surface feel. It is not suitable for materials with smooth mirror surfaces, such as PET products.

    Resin ribbon

    Resin ribbon contain the highest proportion of resin components, and the energy level required for printing is also higher than that of wax and wax/resin. Since most resins are harder than wax, the high content of resin makes this ribbon have excellent properties. Anti-scuff and chemical resistance.

    If the printed data must be resistant to solvents and high temperatures, it must be used for chemical product packaging, or must be resistant to high temperatures, used in the heating parts of electrical appliances, or must be printed on special chemical products such as PET, it is recommended to use resin ribbons , because the resin composition materials can meet the above requirements, but this kind of ribbon is usually relatively expensive, but the printing effect must be matched with paper/printing media to achieve the best printing level.

    Wax/resin ribbon

    Wax/resin ribbon generally contain a high percentage of resin ingredients, which determines the high melting point of this ribbon. Compared with wax-based ribbons, printing with this ribbon also requires a higher Energy level, since most resins are harder than wax, the scratch resistance and chemical corrosion resistance of printed graphics are also better than wax-based ribbons. Most mixed-base ribbons are composed of two or more layers.

    A product that utilizes wax and resin as the primary materials for its coating. The mixing ratio is adjusted according to the requirements. It is commonly used for materials with smooth surfaces. Generally, it is suitable for products with strict surface requirements, such as labeling common consumable products.
